In Loving Memory of Charlotte Ann Beyers – b. Feb 23rd, 1932 – d. Jan. 16th, 2011
Charlotte was a SSAEYC Board member and our Scholarship Chair since 1993.
When her family moved to Olympia, Charlotte decided her love of children could be extended to helping other families. She became a pre-school teacher at the Olympia Child Care Center, then attended The Evergreen State College, where she graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught at Oly Bear Pre-school and finally realized her dream of opening and running her own pre-school, Rainbow. Rainbow was a safe and nurturing place where she tended children with loving care for many years. After she retired, she volunteered for The South Sound Association for the Education of Young Children. Charlotte worked to maintain the library at the Child Care Action Council in the Family Support Center and was chairwoman of the scholarship committee. Not long ago, Charlotte was honored by the volunteer center as volunteer of the week. She delighted in traveling to Hawaii, the Oregon Coast and to Disneyland. From holidays to birthdays, her favorite moments were in giving meaning to all of life’s celebrations. She had a special talent for encouraging all living things -- from the people she loved to the flowers in her garden -- to grow and to thrive.
Her legacy lives on in the family who adored her and all the good she contributed in service to others. Her guidance and friendship gave us strength to grow deep roots and wings to fly. The heavens seem to shine brighter because of her.
